SPEAKER_00Yeah, it's fine. So I just had a mom's weekend away with my my bestie. We will call her B. Okay. I don't know if she wants me to say her name. I can't remember. But it was the bomb. The bomb with B. It was a bomb with B. Um and I just wanted to mention that I I really do need adult supervision.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00Like all the time. So we went and had sushi and ate and whatever. Um and then we went to a bar that was like we just like walked to down the street. And we went upstairs and found like a kind of quiet table and we played cards and drinks. Oh my gosh. That sounds stuff. It was also romantic, I love it. And she still had me home in bed by normal bedtime. Yes. Or a little later than normal bedtime, but I still felt like a rebel. But part of the needing adult supervision is the guy came over to like because we're sitting at the table, like just chit-chatting, and he came over to like take our order or whatever. And I was like, Oh, do you guys have mango cart on draft? Because that's one of my favorite beers. And I don't know about you, but as I get older, I can't drink beer that often because it just makes me like so bloated and yucky. And so I was like, I will I will have a beer if they have mango cart on draft. If they don't, I'm I don't want a beer. They want something different. And my my friend's like, she's like, I'll have a beer. And I was like, Yeah, it just makes me too farty. Like these two eyeballs looked at the bartender. It was like, it just makes me too farty.
SPEAKER_01And like he was probably like 21 and a week old.
SPEAKER_00He looked young. And then she so she orders her beer and I was like, make hers extra farty. And then he walked away and like never went back. Never came back. And I just looked at her and I was like, Why do you let me out of the house?
SPEAKER_01Why am I like this?
SPEAKER_00Literally, I hadn't had a drink yet.
SPEAKER_01I just raw dogging the world. I don't even want to know what you would say if you had been a little swassed.
SPEAKER_00So, anyways, I just that's just like a that's just raw me.
SPEAKER_01Like you can expect of Ashley.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Out in the wild. So part of this weekend, we got like a hotel room down like in the city closest to us, and then we went to this retreat that was like kind of separate of it. And I keep calling it a meditation retreat. It was more woo-woo than that.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00Uh but it just inspired my idea about this week's episode, and it is about um wellness practices that people that people get into.
SPEAKER_01Okay, let's hear it.
SPEAKER_00So, in some of the things I'm gonna tell you, we're gonna kind of do it in the way that I did the side hustle episode where we're gonna like talk about like some of the ones that were like you and I know very well, and then go into like the more unhinged ones. And then you can tell me if you've if you've heard of any of these, if you've tried any of these. But at the end, we'll play a game.
SPEAKER_01I'm not guessing the monetary amount. No. Oh, good. No, thank you.
SPEAKER_00No monetary amounts, just like yes or no.
SPEAKER_01Have I heard of it? Would I do it?
SPEAKER_00And would you do it? Okay, which you don't necessarily have to like play it through the whole thing. I'm just gonna tell you like what it is, and then if you want to tell me. I just wanted to say as a disclaimer, I'm about to piss off like a ton of influencers. So feel free to tag them in our comments because I'm happy to have their engagement, even if it's negative.

SPEAKER_00And this is also just like a trigger warning, especially to our science girlies. This episode might also piss you off a little bit towards the end. My intention is not to shame anyone for any of these practices like I normally would. Um, but I am of the opinion that as long as you're not harming anyone, including yourself, um, you're welcome to live your life in the way you choose. So go off, Queen. Also, another disclaimer, this comes with a lot of disclaimers. We are not doctors. We're literally just babies. Um, and this is not intended to be any sort of medical advice or guidance. Please speak to your trusted, certified medical professionals if you intend to be in any practices that impact your health in any sort of way. Especially ones where you're like not just being like anyway. Yeah, injecting if you're intaking like anything. Applying, talk to a talk to somebody who's spent years of their life studying this. So let's get into it. Level one. So we're gonna go over just like the pretty normal wellness practices. According to chat, Google, and you know, all the other random search engines that feed into those two. The following wellness practices are common enough that even doctors have been known to recommend some versions of them. Okay. Number one, which is probably one that's at the top of everybody's mind right now, is meditation. The claimed benefit of meditating is stress reduction, anxiety reduction, and like focusing. There is strong evidence that it reduces stress, and I can attest that this does amazing things for me. Have you have you tried meditation?
SPEAKER_01There there was like that time, was it last year where you were kind of i into it in a big way? And I kind of did it for a minute, but I just never made the time for it. I'd like to do it, but I didn't I didn't prioritize it and put it in my schedule, so it didn't happen.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I and that that's what's hard is you have to really like make time for it because you have to kind of get into a calm state and have the time to get into a calm state and have the environment for it.
SPEAKER_01Well, and I just have like so much um like scrolling to do. Like, how is a girl to fit that in this economy?
SPEAKER_00Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_01I I think about that often of like I'm you know, and you're like sitting unable to do anything else, and you think of the 20 things that you're like, well, if I wasn't like stuck here, I'd probably be doing this or that or the other, you know what I mean? And meditation is always one that I think of, and then I'm like, yeah, right, girl. Like the minute you have a free moment and that can breathe, you're looking at stupid videos. Get a life, get a hobby. I'm I am in the market for a new hobby, I haven't found what I want to do yet.
SPEAKER_00Oh, cross-stitching, cross-stitches and stuff.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, maybe. Yeah, okay. Anyway, second.
SPEAKER_00Or go on, nobody's forcing you.
SPEAKER_01All of it to say I'd like to I'm the same way though.
SPEAKER_00I fell off from it. I was doing it every morning, and I would I there's this app I've talked to you about it before. I tell everybody I know, it's called Medito. If you want to get into meditation, I highly recommend that app. It's a donation-based app, so it doesn't, and this isn't an ad or anything, but um they do it on donations. You can donate any monetary amount amount that you want. They donate nothing, you can donate nothing.
SPEAKER_01I th I was asking for a friend.
SPEAKER_00But like mainly the thing I love the most about it is that nothing's locked behind a pain wall.
SPEAKER_01Oh.
SPEAKER_00Which is really nice because that's not very common with some of these things.
SPEAKER_01What does that even mean? I don't even know anymore. Everything is a subscription.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. So that's what's really nice is that they're they're just based off of donations, which makes you want to give them money. Yeah, yeah. But they it's not just like two or three meditations, it's hundreds of meditations. There's a timer, there's sleep stories, it's fantastic.
SPEAKER_01So I need to like reconsider.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and don't put too much pressure on yourself because then I think that makes meditation harder. Yeah. Because you can't like bring your mind down. So um, so for me, it it helps me get my mind clear and really does assist with the the symptoms of anxiety and stress that I have. And I've just I've had such a good experience with it, and I've heard a lot of my colleagues have as well. Okay. So yeah. The next one is yoga.
SPEAKER_01Oh, also love a yoga.
SPEAKER_00Love a good yoga.
SPEAKER_01So I love a good hot yoga.
SPEAKER_00One of the benefits of yoga is flex flexibility, stress reduction, and like balance both with like your physical balance, but also just like kind of balancing like your emotions with your mental state and your body and your breath and all of that. Um, yoga specifically works on utilizing the breath through movement. So if you can really, it's really hard. I don't know how much you do yoga. No, no, no. If you can really sync your breath up with the movements that you're doing, even if they're harder, they're easier if you can sync your breath up with like the movements you're doing. Because a lot of people, when they do something difficult, they hold their breath and they hold their abdomen.
SPEAKER_01As one does.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So my hard thing with yoga is I think I have a hard time being stationary for so long, like with nothing, like, which is just me needing to like deprogram from life. But like holding the poses, I'm like, oh, I am bored.
SPEAKER_00You should come to yoga with me. My yoga teacher is the bomb, and she is challenging, but she is con you're constantly moving till the very end.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_00And like, so it's you're not holding poses, maybe that's a different type of yoga. Yeah, I think, and it also just depends on like what flow they're doing. Like hers is a very like quick pace flow. Um, I think you're thinking more like deep stretching, where you're like in a pose for longer and you're trying to like stretch those that muscle out. I do like this. This one's more like I think they say vinyasa is what it is, where it's like very synced with your breath and movement of your breath. So we'll give it a shot. So there's evidence to support um that it helps modality and mental health. It also has like a meditation aspect to it towards the end. Everybody knows about Savasana, which is my favorite yaka post, where you're literally just laying in the most comfortable position and the job is to just rest and be still.
SPEAKER_01That's called meditating because I'm like, oh, I should do that. Girl, it's meditating.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Pretty much yoga and meditation go hand in hand. And with that, another thing is the next thing I'm gonna talk about called breath work. Okay. Have you heard of breath work? Yes. It's very similar to yoga and meditation. It's where you are like utilizing breath and really putting an intention on breathing like intentionally.
SPEAKER_01It was like the episode where we used the bubble arrow. Yeah. To calm down by fake smoking.
SPEAKER_00That's what they say though. Like if you are feeling stressed to go blow bubbles because you have to like use and you can't be mad when there's bubbles floating around you.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. Nobody can.
SPEAKER_00So breath work also helps with an di anxiety reduction, uh stress, that kind of stuff. There is some moderate evidence depending on the technique. Breathing in general is just like literally so good for you.
SPEAKER_01Um, I read a whole book about breathing, but it was more maybe more related to sleep.
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I loved it.
SPEAKER_01That's when I started mouth taping.
SPEAKER_00Oh, we're gonna get into that.
SPEAKER_01I believe in it.
SPEAKER_00So breathing is like our life source. So figuring out how to really hone in on your deep breath and breath work can alleviate a lot of pent-up emotion and anxiety. And is one of the reasons why we always try to maintain the airway first in medicine.
SPEAKER_01Hey, wow.
SPEAKER_00Um getting deep. Getting real deep. Another practice is cold plunges. Have you ever done a cold plunge before?
SPEAKER_01I've never done a cold plunge.
SPEAKER_00I've seen people do them and it makes me want slushy real bad.
SPEAKER_01I've done we have a sauna. I like my sauna a lot, but and I have gone in the sauna and then immediately jumped out and like run to the shower and like try to do just like a cold shower. And it doesn't, I've listened to several podcasts about cold plunges with experts, and it kind of seems to be a mixed review as far as women are concerned. For men, it's like, oh yeah, these are great. But for women, I've heard like it's maybe not the best, but I've also heard like maybe just not as cold. Yeah. And that's in general, like for male or female, it doesn't necessarily have to be that cold, it just has to be cold enough to shock your body. But, anyways, all of that to say I have gone sauna run up to my shower and like had it like I wouldn't say it's cold because I'm such a baby, but like warm.
SPEAKER_00Well, there is some evidence to support um that this like cold plunges help with like muscle recovery, helping you with your mood. Some people think it has any like things to do with cortisol.
SPEAKER_01Oh.
SPEAKER_00I would love to see any sort of study that measures people's cortisol levels when they before, after find a scientist and have them do it. Yeah, I might get my.
SPEAKER_01There's gotta be a study of that. That seems very simple. Somewhere, yeah.
SPEAKER_00There sure, there sure is. But I've heard many people have like amazing benefits to this, so I'm open to it. Um get you one.
SPEAKER_01You can get like little like inflatable ones.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Listen, I'm already But also you need the hot before it, don't you?
SPEAKER_00I think so. Okay. Yeah, so but I when I shower, it has to be like basically melting the top layer of my of my skin off. Yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_01What else are you doing?
SPEAKER_00I'm already a a self-proclaimed frigid bitch, so like bring it on. You know?
SPEAKER_01This is nothing. Yeah. I don't need the ice though. Like, I think peop people use an ice, I'm like, don't be so dramatic.
SPEAKER_00So I'm glad you brought it up though. Um, the next one is sauna therapy. Sauna.
SPEAKER_01So 100% believer. I love the sauna.
SPEAKER_00There is a claim that the sauna can help with cardiovascular health. As far as evidence to this, there's moderate moderate evidence, especially um Finnish sauna studies. I didn't look too much further into that, but apparently there's studies on the people in Finland.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, because it activates your uh what do they call them?
SPEAKER_00I don't know. I see so many people in the sauna, like at my gym, like in full gym clothes, and I I'm gonna be real honest, I don't get it, cuz I'm so irritable when I'm hot and sweaty. I can't imagine.
SPEAKER_01That's why you need a private sauna, because we can just go in and whatever we want. It is really interesting though to because they say the a heat shock proteins, that's what it activates is your heat shock proteins. Um but they say the best time to go in the sauna is right after physical exercise. So it's kind of interesting, like going and working out, you're getting you're already getting sweaty, like, and then go and sweat more. Like it's it's very interesting. I love it. Oh, I love it.
SPEAKER_00There's our neighbors just got one and we couldn't figure out why they would get one in the middle of summer.
SPEAKER_01It's definitely like my husband won't use it in the summer because he's like, nope, but I'll set my day up to be just hot all day. Yeah. Um, I like it. The only the only thing about it is I'm super vain and I'm like, it makes my tan fade.
SPEAKER_00So just do it.
SPEAKER_01So for real? Just do it Monday before I do it before I do tan Tuesday. Yeah. No, but it uh it is just very interesting to just go from one very sweaty activity to a secondary sweaty activity, and you're like, am I gonna have anything left? But you take it take a lovely water in there with you and see I just and you can do like dry or steam in mine.
SPEAKER_00Ooh, I don't know what I would want more.
SPEAKER_01I like the steam more because it for me it promotes the sweating quicker.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_01And I like it like a like it feels weird to leave your sauna not sweaty, which sometimes happens, which it's probably means like I'm dehydrated or something. Yeah, you need some water, but like yeah, so I like the steam because it just kind of gets the steam flowing, the juice is flowing.
SPEAKER_00Does it help with your like sinuses and stuff?
SPEAKER_01Uh you can put like different plants in there that will help with breathing and stuff. I've never done it, but yeah, okay.
SPEAKER_00And then the next one of the pretty common uh wellness practices is massage therapy. Have you ever had a massage before?
SPEAKER_01No, what is that?
SPEAKER_00No, I'm being genuine. Have you ever heard of it?
SPEAKER_01I like the fascia massages, which is like where they put your elbow through. Well, like positional therapy massages. I like those ones where they're going through and breaking down that the fascia.
SPEAKER_00Oh I'm saying that word wrong. Fascia.
SPEAKER_01Fascia, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01The this the lining around your muscles. I like those types of massages the best.
SPEAKER_00Right. Okay. So there's good evidence of pain relief and relaxation with this practice. I honestly live for massage therapy, and a good majority of the time I tell my husband, I wish someone can just put me through one of those pasta rollers because it'd be so nice.
SPEAKER_01Like, I just want someone to like the through the laundry, the laundry roller.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, the laundry roller. Or like just hit me with a bowl dulzer. But like as far as massages go, do you like hard pressure or light pressure? Okay.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Like, if I'm not squirming, what are you doing?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. If I'm not crying a little bit, I don't I don't want to.
SPEAKER_01If I don't hate it, what are you doing?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. If there, if the biggest, most muscled person that you've ever met in your life doesn't come in and just get out. I don't want you. I don't want the dainty hand little ladies. I want like Helga or a man.
SPEAKER_01But what if they're small and good at it?
SPEAKER_00Maybe. But like I'm at that point, I'm they're gonna be like breaking their finger bones trying to get my knots out.
SPEAKER_01You don't know.
SPEAKER_00You don't know. Okay, so do you have any questions, concerns about those first ones?
SPEAKER_01No, I like those. I like all of them. I think they're all worthwhile if you can make it a priority to do them.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_01So all of it just comes down to time, like because I work out in the morning and I would love to get into the sauna, like they say to do it like three to four times a week. And you don't get in long, like 15, 20, 30 minutes. But sometimes I'm like, uh, I did not even have that time.
SPEAKER_00Well, because then you have to go and shower and get ready.
SPEAKER_01Well, I would already be showering because I'm working out, yeah.
SPEAKER_00But sometimes it's just like uh I don't know about you, but the process of like getting ready, like if I know I have to wash my hair that day, I don't can't really have much after that.

SPEAKER_00It just takes too freaking long.
SPEAKER_01What am I? I'm not.
SPEAKER_00Um okay, so these are the next ones, the level two. There's some evidence, mostly it's like some of it's mostly hype. They're not necessarily crazy, but the marketing often gets like way ahead of the science. And since we're science girls, we do need to take this with like a healthy level of cr of skepticism.
SPEAKER_01Some of that white gold. Yep. The pat the salt.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, some of that white gold. I'm sure that's the thing that people say.
SPEAKER_01It is called it used to be called white gold. It was a such a hot commodity. I talked about it in my previous podcast about something.
SPEAKER_00With America?
SPEAKER_01No, not America. I don't know. It was one about uh oh, superstitions.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, that's right. No, I'm never the salt.
SPEAKER_01Go ahead. Anyway, sorry.
SPEAKER_00So the practice is oil pulling. Have you ever heard of oil pulling?
SPEAKER_01Oh, I have heard of oil pulling. Like where you like like you slosh.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so the practice is swishing or swish, sorry, that's yeah, swishing coconut or sesame oil in your mouth for 15 to 20 minutes.
SPEAKER_01Oh, hell no.
SPEAKER_00The claimed benefit is Who has Oh my gosh.
SPEAKER_01I've done it for 30 seconds because that's disgusting.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. People claim that it helps whiten teeth, remove toxins, and improve overall health. In reality, it may help reduce plaque when combined with normal brushing, but there's no evidence that it like detoxes the body, as some of these like influencers claim.
SPEAKER_0120 minutes with 15 to 20 minutes is what it says. Yeah. That's rocking my world. I I mean, I maybe sounds familiar. I did it more, I think I did it for like the teeth whitening.
SPEAKER_00Probably.
SPEAKER_01Not the you know what else also helps is just where you're spitting it after because you can't spit oil down your drain.
SPEAKER_00I don't know.
SPEAKER_01You shouldn't. I don't know. Is that why your sink's clogged?
SPEAKER_00No, my sink's clogged because I have an ass ton of hair. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Anyway, sorry, go ahead.
SPEAKER_00Um Yeah, I don't know. I would I don't I don't think I would ever try it. It just sounds yucky. Yeah. The other thing that helps like keep your teeth awesome is fluoride, so maybe just do that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I could just do that.
SPEAKER_00People have strong feelings about fluoride, but you're wrong.
SPEAKER_01So I'll take fluoride.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Okay. The other practice is dry brushing. This is using a stiff brush on your dry skin.
SPEAKER_01Yes, I have heard that, and I've heard it's good for do you know how like you you can get the like the bumps on the back of your arm?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I've heard dry brushing is good for that.
SPEAKER_00Oh, really? Yeah. Yeah. So the claim is that it detoxifies, it improves circulation and reduces cellulite.
SPEAKER_01Oh, and because people do it all over their bodies. They do it all over their bodies. So I actually have one. Yeah. Um, and I was like, oh no, I'm not scratching my skin with this. This feels disgusting.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so in reality, it only exfoliates the skin, and that's about all we know. But the horse girls are probably really into it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Nay.
SPEAKER_01Nay for me, dog.
SPEAKER_00Nay for me. It's gonna be a nay horse. Um, the next one, it was popularized during the 2016 Summer Olympics. Cupping.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I've never done it, but I would. You would?
SPEAKER_00I've seen it. It kind of gives me the willies.
SPEAKER_01Willies, because it's like willies when you see it or the after effects?
SPEAKER_00Uh I guess when it's just when I've seen I've usually seen like the pictures of like the giant bruises that people get. It kind of reminds me of that trend that people were doing like a long time ago where they wanted Kylie Jenner's lips and they were sucking on the shot glasses.
SPEAKER_01My daughter did that recently with like a water bottle, and I was like, please don't do that. Never gonna go away. I think that one probably belongs in the first category because like a lot of athletes do the cupping. I think there is a lot of science to that one.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so the claims are that it increases circulation and reduces pain. So I could see athletes wanting to do that, especially where it was popularized in the Olympics. In reality, though, some evidence for temporary pain relief, but not nearly as miraculous as social media suggests. So it's it's again one of these things that, like, yeah, maybe it works for some people.
SPEAKER_01Is it not nearly as miraculous as an ibuprofen? Yeah. And a drink of water, or even just.
SPEAKER_00Like moving your muscles in general. Like a massage, I think, helps like move that gunk through.
SPEAKER_01But I also so I look at it almost eve like as enticing as like a massage is because it's like pain on sore muscle, which always feels good. Oh yeah. So to me, those kind of go hand in hand.
SPEAKER_00Like a a good hurt.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Hurt so good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I could see that. I've never tried it. I've heard, I mean, they're it's offered in massage places all over here.
SPEAKER_01I mean, I saw a video on TikTok where I think they just put like some type of liquid, maybe it's like an oil or something on somebody's back, and then they like have a glass jar and they like put a candle in it a little bit, and then they just like stick it to the person's back and then slide up. So I could do it for you right after this.
SPEAKER_00Okay. Do you you just have some leftover oil from that old oil polling you were doing?
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00It's good to know.
SPEAKER_01Bit it right on you. Oh man.
SPEAKER_00Alright. Welcome, children. And then um one of the last ones is infrared saunas. So it's basically the same as a regular sauna, but it has infrared light.
SPEAKER_01Oh.
SPEAKER_00The claim is that they're superior to superior to traditional saunas because the infrared light penetrates deeper. Thoughts?
SPEAKER_01Um given the option between a red light sauna and my traditional sauna, I'll take my traditional. But there definitely is something to the red light therapy, like you know, those red light masks. And I don't know if that's the same principles.
SPEAKER_00I think it is, but I think it is too. I honestly I have noticed a big difference in muscle recovery. The gym that I go to offers like deep stretch yoga, but it's in a room that has those heated infrared panels.

SPEAKER_00And I can notice a difference when I go, like if I go and have like a live day and then I go and do yoga after, I notice a big difference between that and just not having yoga after the fact. Recovery time is like super quick.

SPEAKER_00Yeah, this one says uh in reality it may offer similar benefits to regular sauna use, but many advertised claims aren't well supported. So it's these this section is mainly just people having things like, hey, this worked for me, and then taking it like to the other level and trying to say it. Yeah. Cure their depression and it cured their whatever. Um, but I think there can be, I mean, if it works for you, do it, lady.

SPEAKER_00Yeah. Okay, the last one. This is where we're getting a little weird. Can't wait. So these have become genuine wellness trends despite little or no evidence um to their ability or truth ability. Yeah. Um, and again, no judgment if you've tried these and they've worked for you, but maybe like don't share that much personal information on our Lord and Tavier Taylor Swift's internet.

SPEAKER_00The practice is uh ear candling. Have you heard of ear candling?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, but that was like a that was big when I was in high school.

SPEAKER_00So the practice is a hollow candle is placed into your ear and lit. Special candle, yeah. Yeah. The claimed benefit is that um it pulls out earwax, removes toxins, and improves hearing.
SPEAKER_01Oh. I believe that, yeah. Yeah. I do you ever see those videos of people getting their ears cleaned out, and it does that entice you at all?
SPEAKER_00Yes. I love those videos where but that's not ear candling. That's like I know that's like an irrigation situation. Yeah. Yeah, I love that. I think that's so fascinating. Um, in reality, studies have shown that earwax ear candling does not create enough suction to remove wax.
SPEAKER_01Well, when we used to do it, I thought that it drew it up into the candle, so then when you pulled the candle out, like it burned down quite a ways, and then you'd pull it out. I thought the the earwax was like up inside the hollow candle.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I don't know. It says that there's not nearly enough suction to pull it out.
SPEAKER_01The fact that I don't remember it being anything remarkable probably means it wasn't anything remarkable.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So it says uh it can cause burns, wax blockage, or even a ruptured eardrum, and major medical organizations advise against it. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Instead, they recommend water irrigation.
SPEAKER_00Yes, what they recommend. The next one, um, shout out to Gwyneth Paltrow. This one is the jade or Yoni eggs. These are crystal eggs that um women insert vaginally.

SPEAKER_01Did you say it's cooled or it's just it's just like a jade. Oh, okay. I don't know why. I think a rock. Like jade roller, like how you can put those in your freezer and then roll them on your face. But I'm gonna go hard pass. Yeah, so how does one get it out?

SPEAKER_01I mean, but if it's like an egg shape, I don't know. Does it have a tab?

SPEAKER_00So, in reality, there's no scientific evidence that supports claims of this working. Researchers have also found no historical evidence that ancient Chinese women actually use the them despite common marketing claims. And shocker. There's also some concerns about infection and pelvic floor problems. And this is just a brief reminder from your big sister Ashley. It is just don't don't put things in your vagina that don't belong there.

That's something the process where people will put water and herbs into and like heat it up so that there's steam, and then they'll stand over it like with a dress or a tent, or like, you know, like a no or like they'll squat over the top of it with like a towel or a blanket.
SPEAKER_01Here's the thing. Correct correct me if I'm wrong, but our vaginas are very magical and they maintain themselves, and really, unless you have like an infection, they they are they're good. They good, they don't need your extra attention.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. So the claims are that it cleanses the uterus, balances the hormones, and improves fertility. And gynecologists overwhelmingly advise against it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00The vagina is self-cleaning and steam can cause burns or irritation.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um and just you're not you're just literally not supposed to do anything to like upset the natural balance. It's just it's got that natural flora.

In reality, research is limited and mixed, and allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis, are like a real risk. People there are people that are allergic to bees that don't know they're allergic to bees. Oh yeah. Then they find out and have to be like.
SPEAKER_01I just don't think you want to mess around with that.
SPEAKER_00No. And I understand though, like the desperation of people with these chronic illnesses, like they they probably want to find relief.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, for sure.
SPEAKER_00Like having chronic pain, I can't even imagine.

SPEAKER_00Yeah. So I get like the the push. The desperation for needing those things.
SPEAKER_01Try anything, yeah.
SPEAKER_00This one's really gonna piss you off. Like, really gonna make you kind of mad. Or at least it made me mad. Urine therapy.

SPEAKER_00You heard me. Urine therapy. People will either drink or apply their own urine to their skin or other like wounds or things like that.

SPEAKER_00The claim is that it detox it's detoxifying and it it causes better skin, anti-aging, and immune support.
SPEAKER_01No, it is the waste from your body. It's literally what your body says, get this out of me. Waste.
SPEAKER_00So in reality, there is no credible scientific evidence for these health claims. And urine is mostly water plus waste products that your kidneys have already decided to remove from your body. So like maybe just drink more water.
SPEAKER_01Trust your body.
SPEAKER_00Trust your body. Stop trying to stop trying to like stop. Just stop it. Yeah. Please stop. Please stop drinking your own urine.

SPEAKER_00So the claim is that there it it gives you more energy, better sleep, increased testosterone, and enhanced spiritual awakening.
SPEAKER_01Some purvo told a bunch of women to do it and then just watches.
SPEAKER_00I bet that like a group of people made it as a joke and then convinced another group of people to do it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And it's just like a joke that got out of hand, and now people are connecting to God through their butthole.

SPEAKER_00So it says there's no scientific evidence to support these claims, and dermatologists warn that the skin in this area burns very, very quickly.

SPEAKER_01I I definitely think there is something to being like clogged up, and I think your I think your guts can get a little bit rotten. And so cleaning that out, I see that. But the old the old fashioned way through Taco Bell and diarrhea.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Just go to your local. That's the Lord intended. Yeah. Go to your local Taco Bell, get a couple Crunch Rap Supremes, and handle it that way.

SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_00They cause fatigue, anxiety, weight gain, acne, brain fog, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. So, in reality, actual parasitic infections require proper diagnosis and targeted treatment. There is no evidence that these cleanses remove hidden parasites, and some of these tinctures and teas can cause real side effects. Yeah. They can actually make you kind of sick.
SPEAKER_01So again, throwing off that natural balance. Yeah. I mean, sometimes you do need a little help to get the get the pipes cleaned.
SPEAKER_00So I just wrote here that this shit pisses me off.
SPEAKER_01Because this shit pisses me off.
SPEAKER_00As a science girly, we know and we have studied parasites. Yeah. Um, and I'm just telling you, if you had a parasite, you would know. It's not gonna be a secret. You would know. This is some crazy ass first world capitalism stuff that like it'll just prey on hurting people that have both bars.
SPEAKER_01Also, if you want it for free, just go to the go to your local stream and just get it.
SPEAKER_00But like when anyone tells you, oh, you must have this hidden thing, it's because they don't understand how the body works.

SPEAKER_00And yes, there are things we haven't studied fully, the women, the women's body just in general.

SPEAKER_00But like people aren't hiding things from you. Medical professionals are very arrogant, egotistical people for a reason. And if they figure something out, they're gonna tell you. Yeah, they're gonna tell everybody, and then they're gonna put their name on it.

SPEAKER_00They're not gonna stop talking about it. I just think it's so crazy. And it's very privileged of us to be like, everybody has the parasites when it's like, okay.

SPEAKER_00No, you are very privileged to have clean water, yes, and clean food. And clean food. Um, be so for real right now. The next thing I'm gonna tell you about is called a coffee enema.
SPEAKER_01I also heard of that, yes.
SPEAKER_00You've also heard of coffee enemas. So this was popularized by alternative detox programs, but also basically just my morning routine. I love coffee. Duh. Okay, so the claims are with coffee enemas is that they are a liver detox. They can be, they can prevent cancer and they assist with your energy. The reality is that there's no evidence of detoxification and they carry actual risks, including infection, electrolyte imbalance, and rectal injury.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um, please, for the love of all that is holy, do not put things in your butt that don't belong there.
SPEAKER_01Just and take your coffee the way that Taylor Swift wants you to.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, our Lord and Sailor Taylor Swift says through the mouth, like a normal person. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Just drink your coffee, man.

SPEAKER_00Also, again, from Science Girlies, we're telling you, just as a general rule of thumb, if something claims to be a detox, especially when it pertains to your liver, run. Run as fast as you can away from that product because the human body is a well-designed machine and does not need someone's dirty sock tea to detox.

SPEAKER_00Your liver, you're you're there. I will say there are some things that people do that work, but you don't necessarily need a detox unless you're already taking in chemicals or whatever that your liver is. If you have a severe liver problem, yes, okay. Maybe you need to talk to your doctor about doing something.
SPEAKER_01But like But it's not coffee in your bum.
SPEAKER_00It's not coffee in your butt. It's also not like some weird vag tea or like some weird just can you please just leave your people portal and it's a friendly neighbor alone?

SPEAKER_00They're okay. There's a lot of anxiety around it too, I think, because people don't talk openly about these things. People don't talk openly about the weird, gross things that are happening. Like get your lives together.

SPEAKER_00As we wind down a little bit, um, we're coming to the end of our our little episode here, and we're going to play a game of cool, curious, or cult. So I'm gonna give you a few different examples of things that could be wellness practices, and you will need to tell me if it's coil or fake. Like, is this really a practice? And on then I'll give you, I'll tell you what it is, and then I will tell you like some notes about what it could potentially be, and then you can tell me if it's real and if you're curious about trying it. Okay. Number one is crystal acupuncture. Real or not real? So this uses crystals instead of needles in some alternative wellness practices. So not necessarily like puncturing the skin, but like putting a crystal in a place like better.
SPEAKER_01I think that's true.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. This is real. This is something that people really do. Um, I think I would try it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I would try it. I don't mind it. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Stones, true. Some rocks. Just on the e external parts of my body, not internally.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, no, you know, no yoni eggs, but like I'll keep a rock on my forehead for a little while. I'm good with it. Um frequency charged granola. The idea is that a gr special granola has been charged with a certain frequency that your body then takes in and can change your gut.
SPEAKER_01Um that's fake.
SPEAKER_00That is definitely fake. Oh, thank goodness. Wouldn't it be awesome if it was real though?
SPEAKER_01No.
SPEAKER_00Hey, hot girls have tummy problems. Okay, negative ion phone stickers. So these are marketed to reduce EMF exposure or boost wellness.
SPEAKER_01It's probably true.
SPEAKER_00It is real. Yeah, I don't know if it works, but it is a thing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, my I mean, we're definitely getting all sorts of waves of electricity. Yeah, having these little things in our hands constantly.
SPEAKER_00So, how about grounding bed sheets?
SPEAKER_01Those are real, and I've looked into those.
SPEAKER_00They are real. I have some. Uh-huh. Oh. I'm telling you, because I started on my Woo-woo spiritual journey a while back, and my husband is the ultimate hype man. He's like, Let's do it. Even if he thinks I'm batshit crazy, he'll ask me sometimes, like, what are the planets doing? Is Mercury at the arcade?
SPEAKER_01Like, I don't know what else to say to her right now. What's going on with the planets?
SPEAKER_00But one time I don't remember what it was, but um, I was telling him about like the moon is so cool and the earth is so cool or whatever. And he's like, Oh, I got us a pet prize. And it was a grounding bed sheet. Oh well. So my hype, my hype man got us some grounding bedsheets, and I feel like I sleep better on those.
SPEAKER_01Do they just have a wire somewhere in them? Okay.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so each like you can see like the like thread in it that is I I guess like silver or whatever. But then the sheets themselves have like a little thing on them that plug into the ground of your of your house.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay. So I don't know. You like it? I like it. I how do you wash them? Does it not matter?
SPEAKER_00Just I don't think it matters. Because it's not like electric?
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Okay.
SPEAKER_00Like it, it's just yeah.
SPEAKER_01Okay. I will say I have been curious about that.
SPEAKER_00You should try it. Give it a shot. I mean, whether it's a placebo or not, if it works, great it if you sleep better. Silver has some pretty insane healing properties. Um, TMI, but never TMI. When I was breastfeeding my youngest, she had a lip tie, and so she couldn't latch properly, and so my nipples were freaking shredded. And I got those like silver nipple cap things.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah. You're I I heard about these within 24 hours.
SPEAKER_00I'm not kidding, like the the like scabs and like the the bleeding had stopped. It was insane, and like they it helped so much, and it was just like I didn't have to deal with all like the oils and the yeah, lanolin cream and all that stuff. It was my silver caps. I looked insane, but it was so nice. Dang, it was so nice. So anyway.
SPEAKER_01Do you tell that to any new any new moms you run into?
SPEAKER_00Literally, I will tell to anybody because if you're also someone who runs marathons and you get that nipple chafe, get you some silver caps for your for your tickets.
SPEAKER_01Only men get like the nipple chafing.
SPEAKER_00Well, I'm telling the men out there, if you are a runner, but I could be wrong.
SPEAKER_01I've never experienced it.

Um Wi-Fi blocking toothpaste. So this is toothpaste that has been formulated to block Wi-Fi from impacting your oral cavity.

SPEAKER_00So I'm assuming you also are going to say this is fake as well. Crystal deodorant. This is mineral salt deodorant that is often confused with crystal healing.
SPEAKER_01Uh, I think I've heard of that. Israel. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it is real is something that people use. You can especially tell if they've used it. I feel like you have to apply it more frequently.
SPEAKER_01Oh, you can smell if they've used it, or you can see it.
SPEAKER_00You can smell if they haven't used it. Oh. Because I think you have to apply it more frequently than like the aluminum-based ones, just for whatever reason. And then lunar water charging.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's probably true.
SPEAKER_00It is true. I've told you about this before. Um you leave any sort of like water under the full moon to absorb the lunar energy. Yes. We just had a full moon last night.
