What's up, everybody?
SPEAKER_02This is Christy.
SPEAKER_01This is Ashley.
SPEAKER_02How's it going? Your first week of school starting.
SPEAKER_01I'm in the trenches, man. Hence why we're here.
SPEAKER_02Hence why we're here.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Do you know what I'm even more nervous about though? What? Fantasy football. Oh. It's coming up.
SPEAKER_01It's because you're commissioner this year, huh?
SPEAKER_02Yep. I talked I talked a lot of shit.
SPEAKER_01And now I'm the commissioner.
SPEAKER_02And you know, there's like two ways you can go about this. You could, you know, be like, okay, I I have talked a big game and I am going to rally and really just do well as commissioner. Or I can continue to mess things up. And I think I'm gonna go with the latter.
SPEAKER_01Chaos.
SPEAKER_02It's just it's just gonna be regret on your husband's account for making me commissioner. So thus far I haven't even set a draft date. Yeah. So, anyways, to help me as commissioner, we are going to replay an episode this week about fantasy football so that I can remember what it is that we're supposed to be doing.
SPEAKER_01Yes, and we have our draft this week um for one of our leagues, and then you have to set the draft for another one. So, and we also had kids starting school this week.
SPEAKER_02So I have a lot of research to do about how I can really just ruin lives. Ruin lives.
SPEAKER_01Not me though, right?
SPEAKER_02No, just the just the boys that take this a little too serious. It's just for fun, guys. It's just fantasy. You're not playing.
SPEAKER_01It's not your actual team. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02I know you wear the I know you wear the jersey, but come on.
SPEAKER_01How unhinged is it to wear someone else's work uniform to their job and then get mad when they don't do their job how you wanted them to? That's just wild behavior.
SPEAKER_02I don't I don't know.
SPEAKER_01It's wild behavior. But anyways, so we are just recording this little intro to let you know that this is going to be a episode revisit of our, I believe, episode five fantasy football episode to give you the deets of last year's drama and get you ready for this year's fantasy football season.
SPEAKER_02And also, if anybody just has any ideas of what I can do to be a good commissioner, just let me know. Unless you're Ashley's husband, I don't want to hear from you. Yeah. Love it. I'm here to make your life sad.
SPEAKER_01He's gonna love it. I know he's gonna love it. He's such a champ about it. But anyways, enjoy this um episode revisit of fantasy football.
SPEAKER_02We'll see you next week. Bye.
SPEAKER_01Bye. All right, welcome back everybody. My name is Ashley. This is Christy. And this is Two Brains, One Bot. Um, okay. Today we are gonna talk about fantasy football. Oh, my favorite. So really the reason why we're talking about this is because of the debacle that has happened this week. And I just have questions, honestly. Yeah, tell me. I'm just bringing you to this table because I have questions. Not my actions. How dare you? I know. I'm sorry. So, just for a little context, we're in a fantasy football league that I bullied Christy into because I bully Christy into everything.
SPEAKER_02See.
SPEAKER_01Um, and a couple of our coworkers and their spouses are in it as well. Um, and uh yeah, suspiciously, Christy dropped a very good key player this week. Um, and I'm playing my husband this week, and he picked it up, and it was just like all He's not even playing. He oh, he's not playing this week?
SPEAKER_02No, he's not playing this week.
SPEAKER_01Oh.
SPEAKER_02I thought you were playing your spouse in a few weeks.
SPEAKER_01No, this week I'm playing. So that makes more sense.
SPEAKER_02Let me just tell you, I know nothing about football, but I do enjoy fantasy football. It is pretty fun. That's pretty fun. I like the shit talking.
SPEAKER_01I love the shit talking.
SPEAKER_02I like to watch my points rack up, I like being excited about, you know, maybe seeing how people perform. I liked the one season of fantasy football when I picked up Travis Kelsey and Patrick Mahomes and called myself the Swift team. That was a couple years ago.
SPEAKER_01So I actually have them this year. Yeah, I know you do. And we were drafting, and I would told Dayton, Christy better not. Christy better not.
SPEAKER_02No, because I got like ridiculed for doing that. Oh yeah. Yeah, people are pretty harsh. Oh yeah, no. No, but so they know better. They know, they know better. Know better, yeah. Um, so I have three players on IR. So injury reserve, is that what that's called? Yeah. And but I only have two spots on my roster for IR. And so I have an IR player that's taking up a valuable space on my bench. And so, anyways, I was looking at these players to see, you know, who can I drop? Who can I drop? And so I looked at two of the three, and um, the two of the three that I looked at had said like they're coming back. So I was like, well, I don't want to, I don't want to get rid of them. And I thought for some reason I had looked at Joe Burroughs, who was the third person, um, but I didn't, I hadn't looked at his. I just knew he'd been out forever. But I also know that he's like a good player, so I didn't want to drop him. But anyways, I was at a a family event and I said something like out loud about like, oh man, I gotta figure out who I can drop from my IR, and I said Joe Burrow, and one of my family members said, Oh, Joe Burroughs just had a season-ending surgery, so you can drop him. And so I did. And then me being the person that I am, I was like, ooh, I'm gonna say something like cheeky in the chat, and so in the chat I said, Oh, shoot, maybe I should have tried to trade Joe Burrow before I dropped him, or something like that. And I thought I was being so funny, and then my spouse was like, Yeah, why didn't you try and trade Joe Burrow? Like, that was really silly, and I was like, Hey, he had a season-ending surgery just barely, and he was like, He for sure didn't. He has like a broken toe or something, and then Ashley's husband swooped in and picked him up like within seconds, yeah. What was what was his response when he saw, or like, were you with him when he saw that Joe Burroughs was back out? I think he's with him. I think we get like notifications saying when someone drops somebody, or was he just like he was just checking it?
SPEAKER_01He was just checking it because he and I are very competitive when we're playing each other.
SPEAKER_02Really?
SPEAKER_01I I mean I wouldn't take you to be a competitive person. Yeah. I'm just kidding.
SPEAKER_02Do you know me?
SPEAKER_01I just like to shit talk, man. I just love it. I know you do. I don't, I'm probably because I've never really understood sports at all. Yeah. Um, but I just like to to just like banter with people. It's my favorite thing.
SPEAKER_02So, anyways, Ashley was pretty upset with me. And I was pretty upset with me. Apparently, Joe Burroughs is coming back in December. But also, like, the football season's basically over at that point.
SPEAKER_01I really hope that I hope he doesn't come back.
SPEAKER_02Sorry, Joe.
SPEAKER_01I hope he comes back the week that you have to play Dayton again. Oh. And I hope he absolutely dominates you. In like a friendly way, not like a weird way.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Well, my whole team is just crap right now. I have nobody, everybody's out. I know. There's nobody to pick up.
SPEAKER_01That's actually part of the reason why I was gonna talk about this, is that like literally every player is injured.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Like like we're we're playing on like second string teams here. Yeah. Like, even, I don't know, it's crazy. Yeah. Um, and then you know, it it we're in peak football season. Like it's it's starting to get cold outside. We're all going in, like, you know, it's it's soup weather, hoodie weather, something. I'll tell you the solution. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Hockey.
SPEAKER_01Hockey. Yeah, hockey's cool. Hockey's cool. Is there fantasy for hockey? Probably. Oh, I don't know. Probably. Yeah. Um so basically my question was um, is this sabotage? And the answer is yes. Or is it weaponized competent incompetence and TBD?
SPEAKER_02My my dropping of Joe Burrow.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02I don't think it was it wasn't purposeful sabotage and it wasn't weaponized incompetence either. It was I took some bad advice. Yeah, those family members looked at unless your spouse was in communication with my family member.
SPEAKER_01Probably.
SPEAKER_02And they were in Probably So that could have been a sabotage. Yeah, against me. Sabotage. I'm gonna look into it.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_01So um we should probably s circle back a little bit and talk about for those of our listeners that maybe don't know what fantasy football is. So I'm just gonna give like a quick definition for people who maybe don't know what fantasy is, and maybe Christy since she's trying to ruin my life. Um Indeed.
SPEAKER_02An elaborate hoax.
SPEAKER_01Let's talk about um uh the fantasy football definition. So basically, it's a pretend football team where you get to be the owner and manager and coach of a football team. So you draft the players, you make the decisions. Real players.
SPEAKER_02They're real they're real life people.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they're real life people. So you draft the players, you make the decisions about who plays, who's benched, who gets traded, dropped, put on IR, that kind of stuff. Um, and even though it's like a pretend team, the points are based off of real players and their real game and how they perform that week. How they perform that week and all of that. Um, some leagues, and and maybe you don't know this because I think you just have the one league or yeah, I'm only in one. Yeah. So some leagues, and and ours doesn't, they have league dues where everybody pays in. Yes, since you can earn money at the end. Yeah, and the winners get a prize at the end and the loser gets a punishment, which I think is really funny.
SPEAKER_02I know. I I really love the punishments where they make them go like to a pancake house and they have to sit there for 24 hours.
SPEAKER_01We're gonna talk about it. We're gonna talk about it. Oh, I'm so sorry. No, you're fine. Um those punishments are usually documented on the internet um for all to see. And I have in parentheses, you're right on the pancake guy. Everybody knows about the pancake guy, um, which is like if you haven't seen it on TikTok, go and look it up because that guy's funny. Um, so I guess we should go back. Other than me bullying you, um, how did you get interested in fantasy football?
SPEAKER_02There's no other way. Me. Okay. Yeah, that was it. Sorry. I have no sexy story about because I don't care about football even remotely. Yeah, okay. I don't like it at all. Well, I don't watch it. I watch my fantasy team as well.
SPEAKER_01But do you you do like fantasy though, right? Like, oh yeah, it's very fun. It's very fun.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And I would be I we tried to start a different league with some other people and it just didn't pan out.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, yeah. And that's the thing is like in order for the league to be really fun, you kind of have to have people who are like really engaged in shit talking. Yeah. Otherwise it's not nearly as fun.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Um which we haven't had too much chat.
SPEAKER_01We haven't had too much this.
SPEAKER_02Maybe we can elevate that when we get out of there.
SPEAKER_01We'll have to. Yeah. I'll I'll have to send something that really just harasses people. Which is actually funny because um in my other league, then I'm in, I'm in another league with um some of our other friends. Uh I bullied the You have other friends? Yeah, I know. It's it's wild, huh? I harass them too. Okay. So you have another podcast too? They can attest to that. You can ask me that. I'm gonna look for you. Um uh what was I saying? Oh, I actually bullied the commissioner so much that he ended up making me the commissioner.
SPEAKER_02And he no longer speaks to you.
SPEAKER_01No, he does. We're family, he has to. But like for marriage, so we'll see how that works out.
SPEAKER_02They're gonna get divorced now.
SPEAKER_01Um but I ended up because we have two people in our league that didn't really know much about fantasy football, and because I was giving so much crap to the original commissioner about not educating them, he was like, Okay, fine. And then my husband had like said something funny to him about like I expect a PowerPoint presentation, and he delivered, he made me commissioner like the same week, and he's like, Oh, Ashley can handle that. And I was like, All right, bet. So I I did, and you know, I I made a whole PowerPoint presentation, I gave it, and it even had Taylor Swift music in it. So of course it did.
SPEAKER_02Was it just like a a tutorial about fantasy football? And it went through the whole thing.
SPEAKER_01I think it had like 15 slides. Yeah. So I went over like, I went over um like the sleeper app and I went over like and all the different ways of like putting a player in and out and what certain things mean, and kind of like little strategies of like you don't want to put people who play on Thursdays in your flex spa in case there's injuries and that kind of stuff.
SPEAKER_02This is all new information.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah. Also new the PowerPoint. Yeah, thank you. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And it ends with Except for I don't have any choice anymore. Like I just have to play who is breathing, who has a pulse at this moment. We all do, dude. I put someone in today that has their projected was like 0.35 points. Oh, who? Not even a full point. Cooper Cup.
SPEAKER_01Oh, Cooper Cup. I have him in my other league and he's struggling.
SPEAKER_02I literally don't have anybody else. I didn't know I could have picked somebody up, but then I have to, I have no room on my bench to like move anybody.
SPEAKER_01I think the crazy thing is is so in our league, Dayton set it up so that like you can just pick people up that same day. Which I appreciate. Yeah. In the other league, you have to waver people, which is crazy. Oh so you have to kind of be more strategic about it.
SPEAKER_02But anyways, so yeah, I will send you the PowerPoint and the Was Dayton like this league doesn't have the capabilities of strategy, so we just need to let them choose whatever they want. No, I not this league, Christy. Christy does not have the ability to strategize.
SPEAKER_01I think Adrian actually asked him. She was like, hey, what is she was like, what is this stupid waiver thing? Can we just get rid of it? Whatever. And he was like, Thanks, Adrian. Yeah. Um, yeah, but he is also, he's in another one, so he has like a dynasty league, and then our like um one that our weaver our our work one. Oh so he has a dynasty league one and then the one that we're in, and then we have another one with like our our group of friends that we're in.
SPEAKER_02What does dynasty mean?
SPEAKER_01Dynasty means they don't they only they keep like the same players from season to season. Yeah, they only draft like two people or so, like two or three people the next year. Is it with people he knows? Um yeah, it's been like the same group of guys for like years. Interesting. Yeah, yeah. So I don't know if it was like a duck dynasty type situation. No, no. No. Okay. No, I told you I don't know anything about football. No. So, anyways, um, yeah. Uh so we don't have league dues. I I we mentioned that. We should. That would be kind of fun.
SPEAKER_02No, because I always lose.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I'll start paying leads. I don't know. I feel like you're doing good this year, aren't you? I'd have to look. I haven't looked at it.
SPEAKER_02I was until this week. I I think I'm in fourth place, but I have a good record thus far, but I think I'm definitely gonna lose this week, and there's probably no hope for me.
SPEAKER_01I think I was actually winning when I was leaving. Because I was told I was leaving my house. Oh, I was like writing up this episode about fantasy football, and Dayton's like, why are you even gonna harass Christy about this? You're winning anyways.
SPEAKER_02And I was like, Because Are you guys playing each other this week? Oh, okay.
SPEAKER_01Like, because of who I am as a person, Dayton.
SPEAKER_02Who's not sleeping at home tonight?
SPEAKER_01Um, him probably. Okay.
SPEAKER_02He can come into my house. Sleep on my couch. No, no, he can't unless he gives me back Joe Burrow. Oh get Joe back.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so let's talk about I learned some stuff that when I was researching this. So let's talk about the um origins and history of fantasy football because this is pretty fascinating. Um, so who created fantasy football and when? So, according to an article on the sleeper app, fantasy football began in like 1962, 1963. Um, and this is actually before um the NFL and the AFL merged together, which is I didn't know was a thing. But again, I don't know sports, so sorry if you came here for a sports podcast. That's not it.
SPEAKER_02But um yeah, come to Ashley for all your sports facts.
SPEAKER_01You should see me throw stuff. I'm not very good. I'm not an athlete, you guys. Everybody has their strengths, and sports is not we like you for other reasons.
SPEAKER_02You have other talents, as I like to say.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that's what that's what I've heard. Um that's what my mom says. My mom says I'm special. My mom says I have other talents. Chat GPT told me I was pretty once. And then quickly was like, but other people are better. But you're not better than other people. Um, it was created by Bill Wickenbach. I don't know if I said that correctly yet, and I apologize to the Wickenbach family. Nobody cares. Um, he was a part owner of the Oakland Raiders and is credited as the person who invented it. So um, before it was called fantasy football, it was actually called, and this is a freaking mouthful, so get a pen and write this down, man. It was actually called the Greater Oakland Professional Pig Skin Prognosticators League. Or G-O-P-P-P-L. It was actually a pretty small group of dudes just looking to boost interest in their team because their team was sucking it up. So it wasn't really like what what happened was this this guy, he was like a only just like a small part owner of the Raiders. Um, and they started the season like oh and 13. Like they were they were losing every single game, and he was like, nobody wants to watch these games anymore, like they're so bored. And so him and his buddies like decided like well let's let's make a game out of this. Let's let's just make it fun. So that's kind of how it started. So um and then from there it evolved, right? It always does. So um, about a decade after it began, one of the one of his buddies, his name is Andy Moussalimas, was one of the he was one of the founding members of the G-O-P-P-P P L.
SPEAKER_02Do you have to say his last name like that?
SPEAKER_01Muslimus. It just sounds fun. Musalimas. Let me see. Musalimas. Up here. Musalimas. Anyways, he owned a um sports bar and so he introduced it to the people there because that's like an amazing business model, you know. Um, and so that's kind of basically how it kind of became more public to the to more people than just their group of uh of friends that they had. Um and then word spread by mouth from there, and by the late 80s, more than one million participants were part of the Family. Yeah, which is pretty crazy. Um, and then of course, um you know, the internet, obviously. So um in the early days, everything was done manually. So they would meet in like a bar or hotel room or whatever, and the players were tracked by like newspaper and and like score, like box scores. Like they were they it was like an intensive like spreadsheet type of situation, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um, yeah, can you imagine? And like I would like extend to be like, oh yeah, my player definitely got 3,000 points this time.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. And this is one of those small tangents where I'm just gonna say it's one of those examples of if he wanted to, he would kind of things.
SPEAKER_00You know? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Like he's managing his like his fantasy team with paper and pen. Yeah, but he's taking on a date. Yeah, exactly. He's he would if he wanted to. Exactly.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. He knows all of these stats about this person, but he doesn't want to know anything about any of your friends. Okay. If he wanted to, he would. Yeah. Um, so that's just my little feminist uh rant there. Um but then you know, the internet came about in the early 90s, early 2000s. Um, and it it fueled the boom of it. Um, and um specifically in 1997, um, CBS.com became the first prominent media company to host a fantasy football league, which on on their like website, um, and that led to even more mainstream media attention.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01Followed closely by um Yahoo in 1999, and Yahoo still has, I mean, they have the I think they have the app now or whatever.
SPEAKER_02Some people still have Yahoo email accounts.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they do. Didn't it move to YML though? Or no? No, it's still I still see Yahoo sometimes. Okay. Gotcha. Well, kudos to those people. Yeah. Um holding on. Holding on. They probably still use like ask Jeeves and stuff too, right? Oh yeah. Do you remember Ask Jeeves?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but I thought it was called Butler or something. Oh no, it isn't. It just has Jeeves, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, his the I think the Butler's name is Jeeves. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. No, it's called Ask Butler. Ask Butler. Butler. Christian.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I'll never I'll never get that right again.
SPEAKER_01So it by by introducing the internet, it made it less intensive, right? And then it was automatically tracked for you, not as time consuming. Um it made it more accessible for a larger audience to participate. And then um obviously the natural progression is to um phone apps, right? Okay. I mean, as as um yeah, as iPhones and and smartphones came about, Yahoo launched one of the first major mobile applications in 2008. And as smartphones became more like advanced and and more common um in the early 2010s, uh other platforms followed, um, and it shifted the game from online now to web browsers.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And then it that increased things even more because it's in the palm of your hand. Yeah, it's in the palm of your hand. Um, so why? Why are people so like interested? Like where why did the originators invent it?
SPEAKER_02Because everybody thinks they know better than everybody. It's like it's like when you watch something and you're like, well, I if I was the coach, I would have put that player in. If I was playing, I would have done this. Yeah, right. Sit down, sit down, Stanley.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. So um, why the inventors um why the originators invented it? So um they invented it, like I said, to keep up, like to get interest. Um, their team was sucking it up. They were 0-13 and they wanted people to still stay engaged in watching.
SPEAKER_02But then they had to get an app because nobody could keep up with all that paperwork.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02And they're like, we're also losing engagement because some people don't know how to add and do all this paperwork.
SPEAKER_01Well, and also I it it wasn't the 1960s anymore.
SPEAKER_02No, I don't think that had anything to do with it.
SPEAKER_01But you're exactly right. Um it the thing that makes it like the most appealing is most sports fans know that yelling at the TV does nothing but it feels so much better. It's so much better to like feel like you need to.
SPEAKER_02I might not be able to play, but you should see my fantasy team.
SPEAKER_01Exactly. This is the way to walk the walk and talk the talk without actually having to get off your ass and do something.
SPEAKER_02I like it. I like it.
SPEAKER_01Um, but in addition to that, it can also be like a really good bonding tool for people like friends, family, coworkers, that kind of stuff. And especially, I think there's probably some data on this. I didn't actually look it up, but especially men, because we know their love language usually comes in the form of beer and banter, friendly competition. Yeah. Um, you know, and and we love friendly competition, especially like I I need, I need a thing, especially during the dark winter months, because I have that like sad seasonal depression thing to you know, to like I'm like raw dogging all the depression. Yeah, I got that regular and then the seasonal just jumps on in there. So um, this is the way to like have a thing that like keeps me engaged in community. So it's really fun. Um, but then also in in addition to that, and I know I keep saying also, but um the rise of betting platforms.
SPEAKER_02So I think Oh, for sure betting, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. And they've actually even changed it a little bit more. So sports betting for sure, but they've actually changed it now where um you can do like day of bettings, so you can like bet on like ridiculous things.
SPEAKER_02Oh, for sure.
SPEAKER_01You can yeah, gambling is a big problem. Well, especially in the world of the world.
SPEAKER_02I can't even do it once because I would be addicted.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. There was a bet on one of the the sports apps um that was like what um what color object would be thrown on the field. Oh, stupid. Yeah, and like you could bet on it.
SPEAKER_02And people should just give me their money instead of doing that.
SPEAKER_01Or maybe we should just start a a betting platform. You know what I mean? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02You know what I mean?
SPEAKER_01Like maybe maybe we should just abandon the whole podcast thing.
SPEAKER_02Fantasy podcasting. Who's gonna who's gonna have a good podcast this week?
SPEAKER_01Um, so yeah, so it's it's heightened not only the interest in watching the games because people want to see if they're gonna win their bets. Um, and but also you get that instant gratification of like, I won.
SPEAKER_02It is fun. It is fun to be like, yeah, I won this week in fantasy in this thing that literally doesn't mean anything. It's like you go home and you're like, kids, gather around. Guess what? Mom was the big children football winner this week.
SPEAKER_01Gather around.
SPEAKER_02Do you feel good being in my presence?
SPEAKER_01Do you guys love that mom dominated this week in fantasy football and I'm the best manager?
SPEAKER_02But then there's the flip side where Lyra's like, guys, I gotta tell you something. Gather around children. I certainly dropped Joe Burroughs because I thought he was done.
SPEAKER_01And I bet that it was just like a whole family meeting. Nobody's talked to me since. Oh yeah, it's been a big deal at my house. Yeah. Fair enough. As it should be.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. I brought disgrace to my family.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, your family name. Except for that, your family encouraged this, right?
SPEAKER_02So, like a family member, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Family member. How dare they?
SPEAKER_02I I haven't confronted this family member yet, but I will.
SPEAKER_01Oh man, tell them I said hello. I'll said family member. Yeah. Ashley is not pleased.
SPEAKER_02But their spouses.
SPEAKER_01Um, so in my opinion, it's made every game exciting. So it used to be when I was a kid, you would watch your football team. Yeah. And that's it. But now you're watching. And now you watch all of them because you have players on all of them.
SPEAKER_02So fun fact, I don't watch any football. Right. And I never will.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_02And I shouldn't say never. I should not be a a never, a never Nancy. I just don't care. I just, it's like so slow.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it is pretty slow.
SPEAKER_02And in the winter, I'm more of like a great British bake-off kind of gal.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So I'll watch that one. Maybe. Ooh, what if I did like a fantasy Great British bake-off?
SPEAKER_01That probably exists somewhere.
SPEAKER_02That will be a hit.
SPEAKER_01I think it's more of like the nostalgia for me. Football is always on growing up and like just in fall, like and like just hearing it around the house. I just yeah. Um, so yeah, it it's exciting to root for like to watch all the games because you're rooting for a player on that team, regardless if it's the team you prefer. But yeah.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I do like that. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So I think that's also like helped.
SPEAKER_02I also just enjoy anything that brings people together.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. And the snacks. That's what I'm there for, really. Well, there's just there for the snacks.
SPEAKER_02There's no snacks in fantasy.
SPEAKER_01No, but like watching focus. Watching football. Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah. There's always snacks. At least in my house.
SPEAKER_02There's always just snacks in general. Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01I have I have kids. There always has to be snacks, or someone's gonna have a meltdown.
SPEAKER_02It's gonna be me. And it's gonna be me.
SPEAKER_01It's gonna be May. Watch out, JT. I'm coming for you. This is gonna ruin the tour. If you know you know. Um so over time, new formats were introduced, like dynasty leagues, like we were talking about, um, and keeper leagues, I think are essentially kind of the same thing. Um, and people were just finding creative ways to tailor the game to their liking and you know, keep it going for years. So instead of restarting every year, you just keep the same players and help them grow. So you'd kind of take a risk of drafting a rookie, but then maybe that rookie becomes like a star player. Sure. So um, so yeah, so let's get into some fun facts and stats about uh fantasy football. Facts, go for it. So, and these are facts like facts, not like you didn't really check them. No, yeah. Um disclaimer We didn't check any of these. This is a podcast. If you're here for like solid information, you are in the wrong listen. Listen.
SPEAKER_02We are smart in other ways. Yeah. But not football. Not football ways. You're kind of smart in football. I'm not at all. I don't mind.
SPEAKER_01I'm not not in the way, like there's probably gonna be bros and chats saying, Oh, she doesn't know anything. I don't know, you know, you know, you know.
SPEAKER_02Just tune out right now. Just turn off the mic.
SPEAKER_01Listen, I'm not claiming to know anything about football. Right. But I'm claiming that I will freaking dominate you in fantasy. Me?
SPEAKER_02Personally?
SPEAKER_01No, just like who that's whoever wants to fight me in fantasy. Don't don't actually fight me because I'm a I'm weak. Yeah. Sometimes.
SPEAKER_02Um she's got a big mouth, but there's not much to back behind it.
SPEAKER_01I can talk a lot of shit, but it's I'm very little. I'm a little girl. Okay. Can we move on? Yeah, back to that's funny. Some fun facts. Um, so originally this world was obviously dominated by men. But now research shows that women make up roughly 35% of fantasy sports players in North America. Okay. If you go off a pool of about 59 million participants, that's around 20 million women. Oh wow. Which is pretty cool. Um, Yahoo! Fantasy also reported that women aged 35 and older visiting um visiting its fantasy app increased by 61% year over year as of August 2025. Some surveys directly linked this growth to the Swift effect. Oh, get it. With one Instagram post citing that 10% of respondents said the relationship made them more interested in fantasy football. Oh, cool. So the the TLDR of that is it was so nice of Taylor to put American football on the map and hell yeah, for women for supporting other women's food.
SPEAKER_02Like I didn't even know about football until Taylor.
SPEAKER_01I didn't even know who Travis Kelsey was.
SPEAKER_02Like I remember in high school, I remember there was people that like carried around like objects, objects, and like and they were wearing like pads. I don't know if I was like, why do you have shoulder pads on? Yeah. And why are your pants so short? Why is everybody changing and then it turns out I'd gone to all the games all along. Oh it was weird. That's what you were doing there. I just thought we were hanging out on Friday night.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. All right.
SPEAKER_02I still think that's what we were doing.
SPEAKER_01Um, another fun fact is the first overall draft pick in the G O PPL was George.
SPEAKER_02We need you to stop with that.
SPEAKER_01G-O-PPL. I don't know, I'm not gonna go back and read the full name. Just call it the OG fantasy. The OG fantasy was George Blanda in 1963. He was actually both a quarterback and a kicker, which is actually pretty rare, which is pretty crazy. Yeah. Um, during his career, he set records for the most seasons played, which is 26 seasons of football, and the most games played, which is 340.
SPEAKER_02That's when sports were really good, because now you just have these kickers that literally just sit around and wait for their turn. It's like they should have to play another position. Yeah, that's back when we let football players get CTE like the good lord intended. CTE? What's that? Concussion time extended? Concussion time. What's CTE?
SPEAKER_01No, but you should go watch the movie Concussion because it talks about CTE. It is concussion-related injuries. I don't know what CTE specifically stands for.
SPEAKER_02I just told you what CTE stands for.
SPEAKER_01But it is a brain condition that football players get from having their head repeatedly.
SPEAKER_02Uh-oh, that's what I'm saying. If you had to play like multiple positions, like I don't know, hybrid.
SPEAKER_01Let's make a hybrid league. Yeah. Um, now they don't let them do that kind of stuff and they get fined if they start using like their heads and and that kind of if they're if they get leaving.
SPEAKER_02Right. They are still all getting concussed. They are still. That's what people, that's what the Americans want.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it is, it is what the Americans want.
SPEAKER_02Or so I have been told I have I don't care.
SPEAKER_01But yeah, he played uh 340 games by the time of his retirement, which is crazy. I don't know, I didn't look up when he actually retired, but that's pretty awesome. Somebody knows. Yeah, somebody, somebody will tell us. Um, fantasy football didn't start purely as a football idea. So Bill Wickenbach had previously created fantasy games around golf and baseball before adapting the concept to football in 1962, which thank the heavens fantasy golf. Oh can you imagine my husband would be so much more addicted to fantasy golf than fantasy football? Like he this is a fun fact about um my spouse. He didn't care about football until his friend. Oh well, yeah, Taylor Swift obviously put him on the put her football on the map, but um no, his friend got him into fantasy football, and then from there we started watching it. But before that, I thought he was a lifelong dolphins fan. He was, but we didn't watch the games, like when we were in high school and stuff, we didn't we didn't go to any of the football games in high school.
SPEAKER_02Did he start like in the dolphins from Ace Ventura?
SPEAKER_01No, he said he just always liked him since he was a kid. I love dolphins. Yeah. Okay. And he just likes dolphins. He just likes the dolphins.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I don't know. Dan Marino. Yeah, it's oh Finkle Einhorn, Einhorn Finkel.
SPEAKER_00What?
SPEAKER_02What? I'm not telling you about that. Oh, okay. You can look that up later. I think I've actually said that to you before, and you're like, I have no idea what you're talking about.
SPEAKER_01Okay, so let's get into the uh funny punishments. So um here for it. The 24-hour pancake challenge, which tell me. Yeah, in 2022. So it that just feels like it was like it was yesterday. It feels like yesterday, but it wasn't. That was three years ago.
SPEAKER_02It's it doesn't matter.
SPEAKER_01It doesn't matter. Um, okay, so this is the one I think you and I bonded over on on TikTok. Um, there's a TikTok creator named Connor and the Jets. He started making uh he like started live TikToking about how he was sitting at a diner for 24 hours as punishment because he lost his fantasy football league. But each pancake he ate reduced the time of of how long he had to sit there. So every pancake was an hour off of his time.
SPEAKER_02Yes, I love that.
SPEAKER_01In two hours, he had only consumed three pancakes.
SPEAKER_02Oh, it felt terrible.
SPEAKER_01And the internet thought that was freaking despicable.
SPEAKER_02Like because it was so little.
SPEAKER_01It was so little, and so people then started trying.
SPEAKER_02Some people, some people eat like three pancakes in 15 minutes. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01So some people actually started trying it, which is really funny if you go back and watch all these. Do you remember those videos?
SPEAKER_02Well, no. I only remember the initial one. Yeah. But are they like full plate pancakes or are they like little pancakes?
SPEAKER_01I think they were like diner pancakes.
SPEAKER_02I mean, you know, like the diner ones are like So not necessarily a full plate pancake, but like full diner plate, I would assume. Oh, jeez. Okay, go ahead. But yeah, there's a lot of bread.
SPEAKER_01That is a lot of bread, but I think there's people that tried it and they were like, okay, man, I get it.
SPEAKER_02Like, oh yeah, because it's a lot. They got humbled.
SPEAKER_01They got humbled. I don't know exactly how long he ended up staying there. I couldn't find it. It's been too long. Okay. Um, but from what I saw, he was there for 10 hours and only consumed nine pancakes by the time he left.
SPEAKER_02That doesn't math.
SPEAKER_01It doesn't math. So that was the last update he had given. Oh, maybe he was he was on hour 10. Like I don't think he I don't think he was leaving at that time. He was on hour 10 and he had only consumed nine pancakes at the last update he had given. So that how so how many pancakes could you consume?
SPEAKER_02Well, now knowing that, I would I would have guessed I could consume like 10 pancakes. Dang. But like in a long like I I would guess I could consume two pancakes and then maybe have like an hour or two off, and then maybe like another two pancakes. Yeah, and then I kind of continue that on.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I think I don't think I could, I don't think I could. I I'm just not very much like a sweet. Well, I guess it would just kind of depend, because you're like if you're there for 24 hours, yeah. I don't really like sweet breakfasts. I like savory, like salty stuff in the morning to really get that puffiness going, you know.
SPEAKER_02But maybe you start in the afternoon and then it's like you're eating a sweet lunch.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. I think it also depends on if you like consume something good with it, like if you're drinking coffee or water or what you know, like yeah. There was a lot of critiques in the comments on the on that video. I like it. Um, and yeah, that was pretty funny. So going back to um baseball, actually, we talked about from the Blue Jays. Actually, the Blue Jays.
SPEAKER_02So I said that correctly.
SPEAKER_01Um, I think so. I I think um there was a case where a real Major League Baseball player, his name is Chris Bassett, um, he had to serve as the bat boy for his team because he finished last in his fantasy football league. Yay, I like that. He had to wear a customized jersey with 410, which is his fantasy fantasy football record on the back. But there is a history of this punishment within the league and another player having had to do the same thing the year before. That's funny, which is funny. Um, so yeah. So they had to do that during their spring training, which is really funny. And then this one I was I scoured the internet for this because I would I was dying to find it, but I couldn't. It's again back from 2022. This must have been when fantasy football punishments were really at their height. Um, but there is a guy, um, the internet says his name is John Goodwin. Um, internet says he was from Alabama, and he lost, he was dead last in fantasy football, and he had to perform a five-minute stand-up comedy set at a real club in Huntsville.
SPEAKER_02No, guess what? Did you see this? No, but my friend had to do this. No way. But I think he only had to do one minute at uh like at the local comedy club. 100%. He did that. That's awesome. Yeah. He just said he roasted, he said he didn't really prepare anything. He just roasted everybody in the room.
SPEAKER_01Oh, really? Yeah. So there were rules. The only rule that they they made for him was that he had it had the entire routine had to be about his fantasy failures.
SPEAKER_02Oh so every bad draft, every trade he regretted, every minutes is a long time is a long time. Like we've only been talking for four minutes and it's felt like eternity. I'm just kidding. Hey. Shut up.
SPEAKER_01I I was gonna say a lot of swears that you were just now and I held back. Thanks for not. Just kidding. Um, yeah, so his entire routine had to be about his fantasy flare flares. Um the the clip went viral back in 2022. I can't find it anymore. Um, but yeah, if anybody can find that clip, I want to see it so bad.
SPEAKER_02I did find He probably listens to this podcast, he'll tell you.
SPEAKER_01Probably, yeah. For sure.
SPEAKER_02Oh shadow.
SPEAKER_01I did find a TikTok of a comedian introducing him, uh-huh, like uh like being his opener, I guess, which is wild for an open mic night. And the comedian was talking about like how kind of disrespectful it is for that to be a fantasy punishment to people who are actually comedians. Cause it's like, hey, it's fine to take my profession and the thing that I've worked really hard at and just like making any make it a joke random.
SPEAKER_02That's what life is, though. Everybody just on all your stuff, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. So now that we've done that, um, we're gonna get into you can't ask me that question. Okay, let's go. Let's just follow it up with some you can't ask me that. Are you ready? Yep. These might get a little spicy.
SPEAKER_02Okay. We haven't put a max or we haven't put a number on how many times I can say you can't ask me that. So let's go.
SPEAKER_01Let's do it. Um TBD. Uh I will say you can't say it to every single one of these. So what would AI name your team if it was being brutally honest?
SPEAKER_02Um Girl Don't Know Anything.
SPEAKER_01I love it. Currently, mine is Karma Sucks at Football.
SPEAKER_02Oh, mine is Sunday Best.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_02I don't know why. From that song. Yeah, I love that song.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, that song's a good one. Um is fantasy football just astrology for men?
SPEAKER_02Yes. They just want to have sleepovers.
SPEAKER_01They just want to have sleepovers. They were both boys. Um, true or false, AI says men emotionally bond more over fantasy football than therapy. Yes. That's not how true or true. Crushed it. I don't know the answer, so probably. See. See. Um if AI managed your fantasy team, would it outperform you?
SPEAKER_02Duh. Maybe I need to have it do it for me. Maybe. No, because I won't I told you I like to do my own things. I know. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, you're gonna be the one that saves us. Thank you. Yeah. Um, you and all the Gen Zs. I'm gonna be over there like, well, what else can you do? Last one. Did you intentionally trade to my husband just to screw me this week?
SPEAKER_02No, I swear I was given intel, even though the even though I could have taken two seconds just to tap on his player ID and see that it wasn't true. Yeah. Yeah. But then I did that funny comment. You know it wasn't true because I I said that funny sarcastic comment that then nobody replied to.
SPEAKER_01I thought you were being genuine. I thought you were being like, oh man, I guess they could have traded him. Because he was on a I thought you were being genuine.
SPEAKER_02Well, because I I was like, who's gonna pick up Joe Burrow? He's season ending injury or season surgery. Yeah. Put those words in the correct order.
SPEAKER_01Crushed, crushed it. Crushed it. All right. Um, well, that concludes our You Can't Ask Me That Fantasy Football Edition segment. Um, big thank you to Christy for giving us some hot goss to talk about in the league chat this week.
SPEAKER_02You're welcome.
SPEAKER_01Um we invite listeners to send in their favorite fantasy fantasy football facts or weird league stories. Um, specifically, I want to know, and I'm gonna set up a Google form for this. I want to know what funny names you have seen or have done in your own leagues. I love the funny names that people come up with.
SPEAKER_02That's probably why I joined Fantasy, is because I thought I would be more creative and then I haven't changed my name this whole season.
SPEAKER_01Some of them are so funny and I love them. Um also feel free to put them in our socials comments because I think that's so funny. Um, I want to know funny punishments that you have given the losers, besides the ones we just listed, because you know. Yeah. Um, and I I I also just want some advice. This is this is now a please help me with my with my team podcast.
SPEAKER_02If anybody wants to to co-manage my team with me, let me know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, welcome back, everybody. This is just a small update about fantasy football because we know you are chomping at the bit to uh really hear what happened in this saga of events. Um, the great part about this podcast is that we actually um record episodes a little bit in advance. So when we recorded that initial episode, I was playing my husband and was worried about Christy's faux pas of dropping a key player and my husband picking him up. Um, turns out that went fine, but now we're to the point where Christy has just played my husband in fantasy football, and I would love an update, my friend. Tell me. Pass. Pass is in I don't want to talk about it.
SPEAKER_02Pass, I don't want to talk about it. No, okay, so you were worried that I had given up Joe Burrow on the week that you were gonna play your spouse. Yes. And but Joe Burrow was still on IR at that point. So you were fine.
SPEAKER_01I was fine.
SPEAKER_02Okay, it brings us to last week. I'm playing your spouse, and here we have Joe Burrow making his heroic comeback, which I was like, he'll probably do so crappy. He did not, he did great. Um however, and it looked like your husband was gonna win the whole time. Yeah. Whole time, like I was just like, whatever, I have a crappy team. Anyways, but I think like Monday night I got on just to look and see what was going on, and we were like neck and neck, and I was like, Whoa, yeah, I remember it was just that like popping off a little bit, yeah. And so I think I think your husband only had his defense playing, was it and but like I was I all my players had played and I was within like I was like close enough that I was like this could be this could get close, yeah. And I think I was up by 30 points, which in our league, I don't feel like defense really gets much beyond like 20 points, right?
SPEAKER_01No, I feel like they're that's typically like a high end for a defense.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so I was feeling uh I was feeling validated in your choice, not validated, I was feeling confident, I was feeling um cocky, I was feeling all the things because I was ahead again by 30 points, his defense still had to play. And in my mind, I was like, Ain't no way they're not getting 30 points. Yeah, that's right. Um, anyways, so of course I get on to the group chat on sleeper, I'm talking some shit, and then your husband replies and says, Oh, you better look at the scores or something. Oh and at that point he had gotten ahead, but then I got ahead again. Like it was like this like neck and neck, like I don't even know, I don't even know. Yeah, anyways, he won.
SPEAKER_01He won.
SPEAKER_02He won by like one and a half points, and um I vowed never to speak to him again, so that's cool.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and we have a work dinner coming up, and I believe um you can sit at the opposite side of the table, or he can. Yeah, um, we've marco poloed a couple times since then too, and I've had him in the marco polo, and you were like, who is that person? And I'm not speaking.
SPEAKER_02I don't I don't even know who that is. Yeah, nobody knows.
SPEAKER_01Um, so I so just as like recap, I ended up beating him like with a slim. I was like one and a half points. But the funniest part is that he he beat you with about a one and a half, so it was like right there.
SPEAKER_02Um but you know what? He's got a great team, and so the fact that I was so close, and it wasn't even a high scoring match per se, like compared to previous matches or whatever we call them. Um I don't know. I still think his team is trash.
SPEAKER_01So I have questions for you now. Um did you talk to your family member about a suggestion? I mean too.
SPEAKER_02They might not even remember that they said that.
SPEAKER_01And and let us know if you guys are on speaking terms until after this because I think it was just either this person didn't um maybe they misheard who I was talking about, maybe or that they just had their information.
SPEAKER_02I don't think there's a big conspiracy about it. But maybe I don't know. I think I'm gonna check your husband's phone and see if he has my family member's number in there because maybe they were talking.
SPEAKER_01Maybe I wouldn't put it past him. He loves a long game joke. He he lives for the long game joke, like the big potato chip. Um, but anyways, uh and then how did your kids and your family take it when I mean like when you lost? Were you allowed back home? They are also still not speaking to me, yeah. Right, right, right, right.
SPEAKER_02So sleeping in the doghouse outside. Gotcha. Wow. So I don't know. We'll see. This week I am also not uh poised to win. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Are you playing anybody in the in the bam?
SPEAKER_02I am playing my husband. So shoot. Yeah, not great. Not great. Oh no. Um one thing we should I just want to point out for everybody is that Ashley is in second place in our league.
SPEAKER_01I am in second place, and you know what's funny about that is I'm also in second or first place. I'm like right on the teetering in my other league, and I think it's because I stopped looking at stuff pretty frequently. Oh because I've just poured my heart and soul into this podcast. Okay.
SPEAKER_02So you stopped playing fancy football and just letting it ride.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm just letting it ride. I'm not obsessing about it in the way that I uh usually do with things, and so I think that's why I'm winning.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01Or maybe I'm just really lucky this time around. I don't know. I don't know.
SPEAKER_02We'll find out though. So it looks like you're second place. I'm I'm hanging in there in sixth place out of 10. So just right right in the middle.
SPEAKER_01Are you gonna be playing in the toilet bowl then? Probably.
SPEAKER_02No, I'm not in the toilet bowl. Oh I am currently matched up with your husband for the first round of playoffs.
SPEAKER_01You know what would be just some poetic justice is if I smash his phone and somehow you ended up playing me in the championship. That would be good. That would be pretty good. That would be and that was how the podcast ended. And then Dayton could just trade me Joe Burroughs and then and then we would still be friends, right?
SPEAKER_02No, he needs to trade me back Joe Burrow.
SPEAKER_01I don't think we can trade anymore. The trade deadline's gone. Oh, there's no more trading. No, so once you get towards like the podcast, or what am I saying? Once you get towards the playoffs, um, you like the trade ends so that you can't conspire like that against people. So yeah.
SPEAKER_02That seems like a wussy rule.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it is, but it's also for fairness. But then you could make like mega teams. You could make mega teams and really cause some fighting within your league.
SPEAKER_02So that kind of seems short-sighted.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it would probably be good. Somebody would probably get stabbed and we'd have to bail somebody out, and it would be a whole thing. You know what?
SPEAKER_02I'm gonna vote your husband out as commissioner of our league.
SPEAKER_01You should just start harassing him. I'm going to. He would love it. He loves it. He he loves it.
SPEAKER_02Well, I'm gonna first get everybody on my side, and then we're gonna oust him as commissioner.
SPEAKER_01Oh, okay. Are you gonna take on that role?
SPEAKER_02Oh no, heavens now.
SPEAKER_01Then who's gonna do it? Because I Oh, I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Somebody else.
SPEAKER_01Well you're gonna be not commissioner anymore, but could you like set it up for us? And then pass the keys. Could you like do it, but put me in the role? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Okay, we're not really gonna out do that because nobody wants to do that. It's fun to talk about.
SPEAKER_01Oh man, good update. I love it so much.
SPEAKER_02Thanks for I don't love it, but that's all right.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, thanks for coming to the table and sharing your losses with us.
SPEAKER_02We will we'll update you when uh he and I play again whenever the playoffs start. Okay. I don't know when that is like. I think barely next week.
SPEAKER_01I think so. Yeah. Okay. Yeah, we'll do another brief update for everybody. Um, because I know you guys are just dying to know.
SPEAKER_02Everybody's dying. Like strangers in the street are stopping me to be like, so what happened?
SPEAKER_01Oh my gosh, Christy, can you give us a comment?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's just like getting to be too much.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Famous. Anyways, all right. Thanks.
SPEAKER_02Bye. Aye. What's up, Christy? Hey Ash, how's it going?
SPEAKER_01It's good. We have some things to talk about.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, we need to first and foremost, we need to update on the fantasy football because everyone has been waiting on bated breath for like what happened in the sleep.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And I guess I should say before you even get started, is that your ploy to sabotage me by giving my spouse Joe Burroughs did not work. Oh. So good. Continue with our update here.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so the the biggest update of it all is that I was indeed not in the playoffs, as I previously declared. I thought I was. And at the time of that recording, I was in the playoffs, but I you were playing to see if you could get into the playoffs.
SPEAKER_01She did not. But nope. It's okay. Yeah. Running on vibes over here.
SPEAKER_02However, I was not the toilet bowl king or queen. So I I'm gonna take that as a a W.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's a W. Yeah. I mean, you didn't, you didn't not win.
SPEAKER_02I didn't not not win.
SPEAKER_01You didn't not not win.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Yeah. But there was some very funny drama that we want to talk about. So in the final two weeks of the league, we get a message drops from a fifth or sixth player that was no longer in the championship. So Ashley's gonna read that for us.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, he says, Hey, nobody is playing anymore but those in the championship, right? Like the season's over.
SPEAKER_02So top four for those of you that don't know me.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. And the commissioner chimes in and says, Yeah, championship and third place games. And then he says, as a Christmas gift to those remaining, I will be dropping all my players today. Some are good and could help you win the championship. As a Christmas gift to myself, I will do it slowly throughout the day out of spite. And then proceeded to drop. Um no, he didn't. He picked up somebody or he dropped somebody. No, I think he dropped somebody. Um, because it yeah, it shows him dropping uh Chicago Bears running back and picking up Aaron Rodgers, which is funny. I wonder if he just picked up all quarterbacks. Because what are you gonna do? Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Um and so I see this and I'm like, oh, I love this. So I start a text thread with me, Ashley, and this person, and I'm like, yes, I am loving this drama. And then I realized that Ashley was still in the championship because I didn't know that. Yeah, I I was not paying attention.
SPEAKER_01I, of course, Christy's trying to sabotage me again.
SPEAKER_02So I'm trying to rile like this third person to be like, yeah, let's do this. Come on, Ashley and I are behind you. And she's like, actually, I hate this.
SPEAKER_01I hate it because I wanted to win on my own accord.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01And um, yeah, so the so the person I was playing in the championship did not like this. He was, I mean, this caused quite a stir because he was projected to win. Yeah. And I get it. Like he was like number one the whole time. Yeah, he was number one the whole time, and he's really good at fantasy football, so I get it. Like he he does the research where the rest of us are just there for the vibes. Um, so those two go back and forth for a while, so much so that it like stirred it up, and the commissioner had to make a poll in the chat to see like if we all agreed with this new method of what was happening. Because I voted for dropping. I thought it was a great idea. I loved it. See, and I was projected, I was not projected to win at all, but I voted against it because if I did win by some happenstance, I didn't want everybody to think it was a win based off of picking up players in the last minute.
SPEAKER_02So there was kind of like an unofficial like truce of like between Ashley and the number one person of like, we're not gonna pick anybody up. Yeah, we're better than you guys, literally. We made it to the championship. Anyways, this hilarious person starts dropping all their people because Agent of Chaos. Yeah. And truly, my spouse was still in the championship, and he was like, Yeah, I'm picking these people up. So he just started picking people up and he was playing your husband now. He was playing my husband, and he said, This is for Joe Burrow.
SPEAKER_01He called it, I believe he called it the Joe Burrow curse.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01He destroyed him. Oh, killed him, yeah. But I mean, he had like all really good players because he just picked up. I mean, like your spouse went through and picked up like literally like seconds after he must have been watching it all the time. So he was the only one that picked up anybody. I think so. I didn't watch. Yeah, no, I'm pretty sure he picked, he's the only one. Um, because it shows the first person dropping all of them, and then it shows your spouse picking people up. And then he says, your spouse says, I have no morals, you're going down. Just so funny.
SPEAKER_02He didn't care. Yeah. Okay, so then oh, so what who were you in the like the very championship championship? Yeah, I was in the championship. Like I what do you mean? Like who who were the last two people in the league?
SPEAKER_01That's the championship.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Me and this and the other person.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01That's what we're doing.
SPEAKER_02Also, my spouse didn't win the second to last round. No. No, he was playing. Oh, because they were playing to they were playing to play third to third place. Okay. So he didn't win though. No wait. No, he did win. He got third place. My husband got third place. Yeah, he got over years. He did get third place. Yeah. And then you and our number one fantasy football rock star played, and then he won.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah. Hey, it was a valiant effort. It was a valiant effort. And honestly, there was only about a 20-point difference, which if I would have put in a different um no, actually, no. There's nothing I would have done. There's nothing I could have done.
SPEAKER_02Woulda, coulda, shoulda. Anyway, so that is how fantasy football ended. Which have you seen that funny fantasy football loser videos on TikTok right now of the guy that has to eat 71 hot dogs?
SPEAKER_01Yes, I shared it on our TikTok because your spouse sent me the video. I sent it to you.
SPEAKER_02Oh, I thought you. So there's a guy on there that lost his league, and I can't remember why they decided on 71. Um, the world hot dog eating champion. Oh, yeah. Ate 71 hot dogs. So Homie has to eat 71 hot dogs before he can have any other food. So he's legit just been eating hot dogs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Yeah. Bun. He can put on like ketchup and mustard, I think. Yeah. But he can't like cook it in the macaroni and cheese or anything like that. He has to eat like and as of today, which is uh January 11th. Yeah, January 11th. I think today might be his last day. I think so. If he really rallied hard.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Dude, I was watching those videos and I was like trying not to like the whole time. Even and you can see it like, because he he must have like a really early morning job because he wakes up at like 4 30 in the morning. And there are some mornings where he's like, I can only have one hot dog. And you can see on his face, I'm like, dude, I'm gonna throw up for you.
SPEAKER_02But I just wonder, like, they said he couldn't have any other food, but is that like including snacks? Like he can't even have like I would assume so.
SPEAKER_01They said as soon as he started, he has to eat only hot dogs until he meets 71 hot dogs and then he's done. Oh my gosh. Can you imagine? I don't know if I could do it. You know what's so funny? What I would have done, like because I'm I'm crazy, is I would have let the winner let him know when he's done. Not even like the 71. I would have let whoever won that championship tell the loser when they could be done. Like pick the number. Oh, okay. Or like, like tell them, like, no, I don't think 71's enough. Oh. Or tell him, or do the 71, but tell him on what days it has to be like prep, like how it has to be prepared. So like you have to eat just a raw hot dog this day. You have to cold, cold hot dog, cold hot dog, warm hot dog, boiled hot dog, grilled hot dog.
unknownSo gross.
SPEAKER_02Yes. So so gross. I there's no way. There is one video of him where he says, like, I have to go out to my car during lunch because I don't want my coworker to know I'm putting down glizzies.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, glizzies for lunch. Glizzy gang is what he's what his followers I posted it on our TikTok story. So funny. Because I was like, we're unwilling members of the glizzy gang.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. But he's like, but I don't know why I'm so embarrassed. Yeah. It's very funny.
SPEAKER_01Because there's like 75,000 people watching these videos. But also, like, hot dog for lunch is normal.
SPEAKER_02I don't know, maybe eating three hot dogs for lunch isn't normal in your car alone.
SPEAKER_01Probably also the look on his face of absolute disgust of having to eat. I mean, he was on like 51 before he made that, before he made that video of like, I have to go out to my car.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02I'm I'll just keep following.
SPEAKER_01R.I.P. to a stomach, man. But did you see? Um, speaking of like punishments, did you see that iHop is like really like, yeah, they have a commercial right now where they're offering like bottomless pancakes because of the pancake guy. And nobody's taken him up on the office. And a football player is like on the ad and he looks high. He looks so high in the ad. I'm watching it. I'm like, that guy, that guy is not, yeah. He's got something going on. Yeah. He looks too happy to eat them pancakes. But yeah, they talk about how he's like a football player and he's like, Yeah, sorry, I made you lose your fantasy league or something like that.
SPEAKER_02I'll meet you at iHead.
SPEAKER_01I think it was actually the guy that was on IR the entire time, Malik Neighbors. I didn't have him.
SPEAKER_02I had him, I think I had him on IR. Well, all of this is a, I feel like next year there really should be a penalty to our league. Oh, definitely. So we'll uh be thinking about it. We have a year to think about it, I guess.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and I think uh also we need to um make a penalty of not like participating each week.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, if you don't participate.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_01Or just start kicking people out, maybe. I don't know. Yeah. Okay, that's all we got for fantasy football update. Recap. Um Christy did not win. Christy didn't Christy didn't win. How surprising.
SPEAKER_02Shocking.
SPEAKER_01Christy, the master of football.
SPEAKER_02The knower of all.
SPEAKER_01The knower of all did not win. I know you guys were all waited on bated breath for that one. And that's all I got. So uh tune in again soon for some who knows what's coming next. Yeah, you don't even know. Yeah, from two brains. And uh don't forget to to stay human, stay curious. That's all I got.
